LA SUPREMA - LAURENZ BERGES, FABIO VIALE
PREVIEW 20th JANUARY 2017, 6 PM , 20th JANUARY - 30th APRIL 2017
FLORASTRASSE 75, DUESSELDORF, GERMANY
Kunst & Denker Contemporary is pleased to present photographies by Laurenz Berges (Galerie Wilma Tolksdorfs, Frankfurt/Berlin) and marmor sculptures by Italian artist Fabio Viale (Galleria Gagliardi e Domke, Turin). Having in mind, that all things are only a matter of time, Laurenz Berges works evoke a melancholic sentiment. All is left to decay, alter and perish. So, we read in Goethes Faust: „For all that is constructed – the same is worth to be destructed.“ Berges is therefore not only a „chronist of absence“ but a witness of this decay, which despite inheres a subtle romanticism. His still-lifes depict this transience, alluding to the tradition of the memento mori in art. The motifs not only show moments of absense but testemonies of death, reminding us of our own short lifespan. Also dealing with the memento mori, Fabio Viale´s sculptures are realistic renderings of everyday objects like tyres, paper planes or fruit boxes, while being made of black or white marble. The trivial and common of our time is carved into the stone to last forever, as it was done long before our time.
